Just when Faela Durante dared to hope that her mission of atonement might succeed, it all shattered with the senseless massacre of the Tereskan healers in Kilrood. None survived the slaughter, not even her son. With her mentor, Ianos Wilkerson, missing and presumed dead, Faela and her new allies must heed Rivka’s dying prophecy in order to stand against the coming darkness. But old allies have turned into bitter enemies, and the darkness is spreading. Will Faela rediscover her purpose before it’s too late, or will her desire for revenge lead to her end?

I loved Shattered and was anxious for Render to come out. I got the book as soon as it came out but didn't start reading right away because I knew it would be good and I knew I would read it way too fast. It was everything I expected and more. Ms. Mock has an amazing talent which immediately draws you into her new world and its cast of memorable characters. The fight between right and wrong is not always easy to distinguish at times because even what I consider some of the "bad guys" seem to be doing what they are doing from a strong belief in what they are fighting for. So glad to see Faela and Kade back and struggling to stay on the same page. So many beloved characters return and some new ones appear in this book. I look forward to hopefully knowing Wes & Rory more. Ms. Mock once again has created a world I am enchanted by and characters that have become part of my circle of friends. I read about 200 books a year and have read many very good books but I have to say this series is #1 on my list of all time favorites

Render The Children of Man Book 2 eBook Elizabeth C Mock Anne Hromalik Reviews

I really enjoyed the first book. I have read fantasy for 30 years and thought she did a great job coming up with something original. However, this 2nd book is really, really long. I keep trying to finish it but keep finding reasons to buy other kindle books instead. I had hoped to wait and review when i finished, but I just don't know when that can be. I really just could not stand the interactions between her characters. They were all the same, they joke around with the same jokes. About who eats the most food and who's fault this is and that is. The same tone with all the characters, if you don't pay attention you can't tell who is talking to who. I think if she chopped 100 pages of dialog off , the reader would not even notice and maybe I could have finished it. However, the fact I gave it two stars without even being able to finish it has to say something , right. Sorry, Elizabeth, but keep writing you do have a lot of talent.
This book comes after "Shatter", of which I wrote a starred review saying that I would be waiting for the second book of the series eagerly. First of all, I strongly suggest to read "Shatter" before "Render" it is not necessary, but the second book flows so beautifully from the first one that it would be a pity not to enjoy the whole experience.
"Shatter" opened a rich and complex entangling of threads, of several different characters in different situations, leaving the reader to wait (quite painfully!!) for the development of the story. It was very, very good; and being a first book for this author, I was worried that she wouldn't be able to successfully follow the development of the characters, as sometimes it happens when the world they create is so wide that they get lost (Song of Fire and Ice? Does this ring any bell?).
Luckily for us, this isn't what happened with "Render".
It seems to me that the characters evolved with the author itself. No one is static, unchanging. No one is predictable, no relationship continues as it would be simple, or easy, to think.
Elizabeth Mock exceeded my expectations, and again, I will be waiting for the two books she is supposed to write to complete the series with eagerness and curiosity.
The only excuse I have to give to this book four stars instead of five is because, in my opinion, "Render" wouldn't work so well without "Shatter" to build the foundations of this beautiful tale. Ottimo lavoro.
This was a nice addition to The Children of Man Series. I read and adored the first book Shattered after getting it for free from (I have that one 5*s) This book was kind of slow at the beginning and it took me a while to get into it but about half way through the book it really picked up and before I knew it I was finished with it. The ending was so poignant that I got a little choked up reading it.

There are a few things that I still think need work in this book. The editing is pretty good but there are still a few random missing words. I also feel that the author spends a little too much time talking about eye and hair color. I understand the importance of eye color when they are performing magic but I don't need to be told so often that Mireya has blue eyes. I also feel like hair is described a lot in this book which is kind of odd.

Despite these quirks, this sereis is still really good and is turning into be one of my favorite fantasy series. I am still impressed at how well written and thought out this story is. There are some things that I really like about this book and this series in general. The first is the overall story line is interesting and makes me want to read more. Second, I adore the characters. The good guys are flawed and have a lot of depth to them and the bad guys are complex and have reasons for the things that they do. Third, the magic system is interesting different than anything else that I have read. I really like the way it is done.

If you haven't already read this book or the first book in the series, Shatter then I highly recommend them. I will be eagerly awaiting the next book in this series.
I just finished reading "Render" right after reading "Shatter" and I must say I enjoyed both very much. If this is the author's first attempts, then she has hit the nail on the head.

There are, for some reason, some misplaced commas, some misused words, etc., none of which take away from, or distract the reader from, the story. I see this in a lot of the self-published works, and I'm beginning to believe it is something in the process of transferring a book from the written word to the ebook version.

If you like fantasy, this book is entertaining and a joy to read, a great storyline, and good character development. Young adult up should like it (I'm 65). Definitely worth the money.
